Tathra Art Exhibition “It just takes time”

Monday 18th March, 2019 - Monday 29th April, 2019

An art exhibition will be housed at the Cool Room Gallery at Tathra Hotel, exploring the theme of regeneration and recovery after the 2018 Tathra Bushfires.  The exhibition will run from March 18th to April 29th and features local artists, Julie Krone, Tanja Riese, Annie Franklin, Gordon Robinson, Anneke Paijmans, Deb Johansen, Kathleen McCann, Sharon Stevens.

The exhibition will open Monday 18th March at 5.00pm.  Afterwards in the spirit of recovery through poetry and music, the Tathra Hotel will host musicians and the Choir who will perform from 6pm to 8pm on this evening.

Four Winds 2019 Easter Festival | Thursday 18 – Sunday 21 April 2019

At the heart of the Four Winds Festival are two full days of music presented on the venue’s main stage, its iconic 2,000-person capacity Sound Shell amphitheatre. Unique within Australia, this state-of-the art facility, conceived by architect Philip Cox, is surrounded by nature, amidst 30 acres of carefully maintained natural bushland.

Over the Festival’s four days, a series of more intimate concerts will also take place at Four Winds’ Windsong Pavilion, a stunning purpose-built 200-seat indoor performance space, designed by architect Clinton Murray, which has been described as having one of the finest acoustics in Australia.

Free community performances, music installations to be discovered around the Four Winds site, and a special program for aspiring young musicians, all ensure a diverse range of opportunities for the entire community to engage with the Festival’s artists and their music.

ASQ will be performing with our international guest pianist, Stefan Vladar, in a concert, which also features Four Winds great friends Arcadia Winds.

The Saturday Sound Shell program also introduces our special guest composer, Elena Kats-Chernin.

Discover where Beethoven meets the Australian Bush! This Gala Concert showcases artists from different traditions in a performance the scale of which has never been seen at Four Winds.

Beginning with a journey through the elements with Enigma Quartet and Riley Lee, the performance takes us into the extraordinary vocal world of Coco’s Lunch before culminating in the performance of two great masterpieces by Beethoven. Beethoven ‘Coriolan Overture’ and Piano Concerto No.3 performed by Stefan Vladar and the Festival Orchestra will bring this gala concert and the four days of the Four Winds 2019 Easter Festival to an extraordinary climax.

Annual Malibu Surf Competition – May 4th 2019

Surfing in Merimbula

The Malibu Surfing Competition is an annual surfing event held in Merimbula. It is a one-day Malibu surf spectacular with surfers surfing through a virtual gauntlet to reach the finals and great honours.

The Malibu event is an open, double elimination event with trophies and prizes for the six finalists and for each of the categories of women’s, juniors, local, men’s, masters, veterans, legends and of course the dead set-legends!

Jazz Festival

Jazz lovers adore this seaside festival, celebrating music across 3 days with hundreds of musicians and performers and in 2019 it will see in it’s 39th year!!

The festival was born in 1980, during an impromptu Sunday afternoon gig at Merimbula’s Fishpen, the next year it began in earnest and now includes all styles of jazz from traditional, ragtime, big bands, swing, mainstream, modern and funk.

Features of the weekend are the Jazz Street Parade and Concert, Saturday night Jazz Quest and the late night jam session which has the town rocking until well into the wee hours.  Follow the link here to see the line up for 2019.

Tathra Mountain Biking Enduro

Mountain Biking Tathra

The Tathra MTB Enduro has gained a cult following for its super flowing seaside single track, and its enthusiastic community spirit. The event encourages participation of all levels of mountain bike rider, with races styled to meet those needs. The Enduro’s event hub, and over 40km of racing trails, is located within a stone’s throw of the Tathra township. That means you can ride from your accommodation to the start-line, race, and be back for an afternoon surf with the kids. Lots of great prizes to be won.

Candelo Markets

Take a drive out to Candelo Village for the monthly Candelo Market held on the 1st Sunday of every month from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

It’s the largest market on the Sapphire Coast, with an abundance of stalls and a strong focus on locally produced goods and wares. Candelo is set on the banks of the Candelo River and with a population of just 300, you’ll be surprised by the local fare and busy events calendar.

Merimbula Seaside Market

Cranky Cafe Giant Paella Merimbula

A beautiful 20 minute drive south of Tathra, the Merimbula Seaside Market is held on a spacious, grassy oval at Fishpen on the third Sunday of every month. There are loads of stalls to choose from including local produce, plants, clothing and jewellery, craft and tasty food.

The park is right next door to the surf at Merimbula’s Main Beach, and a 5 minute walk to the sheltered waters of Merimbula Lake.

Hours: 8am to 12:30pm.

Blue Water Classic – Bermagui

Head to the NSW Sapphire Coast for the annual Bermagui Blue Water Classic game fishing tournament over the long weekend in January. A NSW Game Fishing Sanctioned Tournament, competitors who sign up for the tournament will also be chasing other fish such as shark, kingfish and tuna, in the waters north or south of Bermagui.

With a number of tournament trophies and prizes on offer, there really is something for everyone. The prize list is extensive with various categories in the tag and release sections as well as the capture. Prize categories include marlin, other game fish such as yellow fin tuna and shark, junior and lady angler categories, most meritorious, as well as a small fry section and a lucky angler prize.

Tathra Fishing Competition – Australia Day Weekend

Celebrate Australia Day at Tathra with a day out fishing with the chance to win great prizes. The Tathra Fishing Club has held this two-day competition since the early sixties. It is now a tradition that enables Club members from all over Australia to get together and catch up. It is also a chance for holiday makers to enter and have some fun while learning from the locals where the best spots to fish are. Seas on Australia Day are usually perfect for fishing with boats venturing out from Kianinny Bay to the ‘shelf’, while others choose the wharf, beach or inlet to try their luck at pulling in the big one. Following the final weigh-ins is a BBQ back at the Fisherman’s Club. A great weekend for those that love their fishing.
